Genu is a region in the brain that connects the left and the right regions of the brain. Researchers at the University of California, Los Angles reported that neuroscientists using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technique examined the myelin sheaths that cover the brain's wiring. They found that as people age, the neural connections that developed first degenerate last.
The scientists say that the brain is not like a computer but more like the Internet. Myelin, which is an insulator, coats the nerves which are like the wires or cables of this Internet. In old age the coating breaks down, resulting in the slowdown of our thinking powers.
Cells that produce myelin are considered the Achilles' heel, since they are the most vulnerable.
