The name Levine or Levin or Levina basically is of non-Jewish Russian derivation, linked to the Russian name Lev. However the name has been taken up by a number of Russian Jews, mainly those claiming to be descendents from the Biblical Levites. Many of those Russian Jews have emigrated to the West and that is the source of the name in North America and Europe.
