The term Boolean was derived from George Boole's name who was the father of this discipline in mathematics. He had attempted to regulate the formal process of logic by creating a unique algebraic system for formulating and categorizing concepts and ideas. He had had introduced the first sets of Boolean logic in a pamphlet that he had published in 1847, called The Mathematical Analysis of Logic. Later he went on to formally introduce the concept in a book The Laws of Thought, published in 1854.

Boolean (or Boolean algebra, as it is known) is a mathematical concept named after the English mathematician George Boole (1815 to 1864). Boole was a self-educated mathematician and formulated a logical system to work out algebraic equations. He published these in a book he wrote in 1854, which was entitled 'The Laws of Thought'.

According to Boolean algebra, conjunction and disjunction are not a pair of operations. The first systematic presentations of Boolean logic were found in the works of William Jevons and Charles Peirce in the 1860's (the concept originated in the 1860's, and used concepts of logic that were first formulated by Boole in the 1850's), Ernst Schroder's Vorlesunger in 1890, A.N. Whitehead's Universal Algebra in 1898, Edward Vermilye Huntington's paper published in 1904, Marshall Stone's work in the 1930's and the Lattice Theory propounded by Garrett Birkhoff in 1940. Two of the recent mathematicians to have a significant role in the development of Boolean algebra are Paul Cohen and Dana Scott who, along with others, have made important contributions to this discipline of study.

Boolean is derived from the name of George Boole and was coined in his honour. George Boole is noted as being the inventor of Boolean algebra. Boolean algebra is the basis of computer arithmetic and even though computers did not exist in the eighteen hundreds George Boole is regarded as one of the founders of computer science.

The theoretic basis for digital systems is provided by Boolean algebra. Computers perform intense computations involving immense figures. These computations are based on the rules of logic and are performed using binary digital circuits.

George Boole, born on the 2nd of November 1815 in Lincolnshire and so was an Englishman. He was influenced as a philosopher by such notables as Newton, Aristotle and Spinoza. His thoughts and works especially on Boolean algebra greatly influenced many future generations of scholars.
