The band Duran Duran got their name from a popular science fiction movie, Barbarella

Barbarella and Duran Duran

The central villain was a character called Dr. Durand Durand. This part was played by the veteran actor Milo O'Shea.
The movie was released in 1968 and starred Jane Fonda as the central character Barbarella. It was based on the French comic by the same name that had been created by Jean Claude Forest.

The movie was one of the few erotic sci-fi thrillers that managed to make it big. Other musicians such as Prince have also drawn inspiration from this film.
The film was thought of being way ahead of its time, in terms of the thought as well as the effects that were used in the making of the movie.
