A person in their 60's is called middle aged by most people.  This is the part of life between young adulthood and the onset of old age.  In the past, a person of 60 years age would probably have been called a pensioner, but the age requirements for collecting a pension are now set at 65 years and above.

Other age classifications

There are a fair few titles for different stages of human development, including the following:

  • Infant - less than one year old.
  • Toddler - between 1-2 years old.
  • Kid - between 3-12 years old.
  • Teenager - between 13-19 years old.
  • Young adult - between 20-25 years old.
  • Adult - between 25-50 years old.
  • Middle aged - between 50-65 years old.
  • Senior citizen - above 65 years old.

As you can see, being middle aged comes before senior citizenship.  Unfortunately, many people will start to question their lives at this point in time, and worry that they're getting too old to do the things that they always wanted to do.

In reality, being middle aged is pretty special.  You're old enough to be wise, yet you've got plenty of time left to accomplish your dreams!

Here's a pretty funny song about being middle aged!
