Perceptual biases may be an outcome of inaccurate social information or inaccurate encoding of such information (pluralistic ignorance)

Perceptual biases can also be explained by the tendency of individuals to use their own opinions and behavior as an anchor for drawing social judgments in the face of uncertainty (uncertainty  social projection)
