The surname Hand is of English origin. It is basically from Ireland. The family originated from Cheshire. They were present there before the Norman Conquest.

My last name is Hand. Ive always been told my fathers family came from Ireland, but actually had English roots, centuries before that coming to Ireland from Northwest England.
I am pretty sure it is not Native American, and not Indian.

My great, great grandmother's maiden name was Sarah Hand. I don't have a middle initial or birthdate/place for her. The only fact I have is that she married Robert Hastie in 1850 in Iowa County, Wisconsin, and they had at least 2 children, Walter Hand & Annie C Hastie. Any insight?

Hand was my Irish Grandmother's maiden name.  Although the records show most Hand families living near Dublin, I was told ours came from County Cork.

My maternal grandmother's maiden name was Hand, it was shortened from Lefthand. Her father was Creek Indian and her mother was Irish.
