The German names that start with Ing are usually first names such as Inge or Ingrid last names are different like Ingeldorf. The ancient God does not make a lot of sense either it is a far fetched theory. I think that if the origin is German then it is because the spelling was changed from Engel to Ingle and Engel in correct translation means Angel.
Looking at the pronunciation of Ingle and the correct German pronunciation of Engel it is exactly the same.
So it is really much more likely that the name comes from Engel and the spelling was Americanized over the years and Engel became Inle since Engel can be a last name I am afraid this makes more sense then complicated research in Genealogy. And if you research Names and how the where changed when the where being pronounced by an American you will find that this is most likely the way it happened if it is of German origin .
Not to say I am right but I did check with at least 12 other Germans here and abroad and the all agree.
