1) Social group - a set of people united by a generality of interests, trades, activity, etc.
2) Formal group - the social group, structure and activity of which are rationally organized and standardized according to precisely ordered group rules, purposes and role functions.
The difference is that social groups are subdivided on formal and informal social groups.
