Well it all started in Spain of course, but it also depends on where you were born, if in the Caribbean you are most likely related to Diego Santiago Santana Maldonado that sailed with Christopher Columbus on his journeys, until Diego disobeyed him and got condemned to the island of Hispaniola (la isla espanola) in the area now known as Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I know that my part of the Maldonados in the 1950's had moved to Puerto Rico.
But this is probably one of the reasons there are so much Santana's in the Dominican Republic and a very noticeable amount in Puerto Rico, as well as Maldonados in Puerto Rico. I And yes I am one of the so-called "infamous" Maldonados mentioned above lol and I am not ugly or badly endowed just so you know jajaja. But I know that a lot, if not, all of the Maldonado's in DR and PR are a result of Diego mentioned above. Gracias Diego!!! Pq sin el, todavia estaremos en Espana... Estoy orgulloso de mi historia y mi antepasados!! (Thanks Diego, because without him, we would still be in Spain.. I'm very proud of my history and ancestors!)
