A fad is something that comes into fashion and becomes the trend very quickly and then also goes out of fashion at the same rate. A fad is actually not based on a real need and that is why people initially follow and adopt it but after some time they realize that it was exaggerated and did not actually fulfill a need. An example of this was that of pet rocks.
