The negative rate of change of velocity is known as deceleration. Deceleration is the decrease in velocity of an object with respect to change in time. The unit of deceleration is meter per second square.

Deceleration = decrease in velocity / change in time

Deceleration = -dV/ dt

Deceleration is represented by a negative sign. The direction of the deceleration is opposite to the direction of motion of body.

For me:;Deceleration is the rate of decrease of velocity with respect to time. It is the negative of acceleration.

The formula for deceleration is the same as that of acceleration, only that the acceleration is represented as negative.

The formula is:

- (deceleration) = (final velocity) - (initial velocity)

time

Therefore,
(deceleration) = (initial velocity) - (final velocity)

time

The decrease in speed is called deceleration. Many things can cause deceleration. For example, in a car, brakes are applied to cause the car to decelerate. Gravity can also cause deceleration . A ball thrown upward begins to decelerate because of both gravity and friction of the air, but as the ball goes down, gravity causes it to accelerate.
