The phrase 'talking in tongues' is used to describe the supernatural ability of a personal being able to speak in a language that others are unable to follow. This phrase has been used extensively in Christianity, and in fact the Bible mentions this phrase 35 times. There are many misconceptions about this phrase. Some people believe that people who speak in tongues talk illegible and garbled words. However, there are others who say that it is not gibberish they talk, they speak a language that normal humans do not understand, and quote Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:4,5 from the Bible on this. Talking in tongues is a sacred gift that not all of us enjoy; it is a gift God bestows on a chosen few, and therefore, talking in tongues can be described as communicating with God, communicating from God.

The first people to talk in tongues were the disciples of Jesus on the day of the Pentecost. Over the centuries, there have been a number of instances of people being able to talk in tongues.
