Racine was the last name of the French dramatist Jean Baptiste Racine. He was born on December 22 in the year 1639. He was considered one of the big three of seventeenth-century French theatre, along with Moliere and Corneille. Racine was basically a tragedian. However he did write one comedy. He was a staunch advocate of Jansenism. He based his plays on Greek and Roman themes. He died at the age of 59 on April 21, 1699.

Racine is also the name of a city which is located in the south-eastern part of the state of Wisconsin. It is located on the banks of Lake Michigan. It is located to the south of the city of Milwaukee. Racine is also the last name of the French poet Louis Racine, who was the second son of dramatist Jean Baptiste Racine. He was born on November 6, 1692 and died at the age of 70 on January 29, 1763.
