Passive means lacking in will or energy. It is the opposite of active. Anything that is unresisting, submissive and complacent is said to be passive. Passive things, objects or people are not aggressive by nature. Passive things are often unresponsive. Thus it can be defined as not reacting visibly to something that might be expected to produce manifestations of an emotion or feeling. Inert, inactive, quiescent etc are some of the synonyms of this word.

Passive voice is a grammatical term that refers to form of the verb indicating the person or thing to which the action in the verb is done. It describes the relationship between the action that the verb expresses and the participants identified by its arguments. Active voice is the opposite of passive voice.
