Plural is a common adjective used in the English language. The dictionary definition is consisting of, or containing, or pertaining to more than one of persons or things. It can also be used as a noun in many forms of the language.

The word origins of plural go back to the times of the Romans. It's origin is the word pluralis, which means concerning many. Like many English words adapted from the Romans, its use evolved over the years and was a standard part of the English language by the Middle Ages.

Most nouns can become plural with the addition of an -s, or an -es.  Some examples include chair, with the plural form of this word being chairs. Another example is the word hat, with the plural form of this noun being hats. Some nouns form the plural in other ways and some examples of this are foot, with the plural form of foot being feet. Another example of this type of plural noun is the word goose, with the plural form of this noun being geese. Another common example everyone should know is women, with the plural form of this word being women. Mastering the plural form in the English language is paramount to being able to write effectively and plainly where people can read and understand the message you are trying to convey.

Take your time if English is not your first language to learn all of the rules concerning plural nouns, verbs, and adjectives. It is one of the trickier things about learning the language and causes the most problems for foreign students studying in the United States. Take a course at a local college or pay a visit to your local library to see if there are any free courses you can take to improve your English.

Plural is basically a grammatical term. It is used in the English language. Plural in simple words means giving a word to something that comprises of more than person or thing. For example, 'man' is singular, while 'men' is plural. In terms of non living things 'paper' is singular form, while 'papers' is plural form.

In English language usually nouns, pronouns, and demonstratives inflect for plurality. In other languages such as German and the various Romance languages, articles and adjectives are generally considered to be plural. An example in the English language would be: "The brown cats run", only the noun and verb are inflected; but in the French sentence Les chats bruns courent, every word (article, noun, adjective, and verb) is inflected.
