I suppose Do unto others as you would have done unto you applies here (boy this applies to lots of things doesn't it)
Life can be so much easier without these little dilemmas.. So a moral compass that always points true north is handy.  Just do what You know is right.. And no dilemma.  not easy..  sometimes it helps to break things into it's simplest form.. If one takes what does not belong to them.. What is that called.. STEALING.. If one steals what does that make one.. A thief.. So the real question is.. Are you a thief.. Do you want to be.. And is that the lesson you want to teach by example..

Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.

What you have become is the price you paid to get what you used to want.

I would turn it in to the local police station and get a found property receipt. Depending on what state and the guidelines of the police department a person who loses personal property has ninety days to claim it, and if no one claims it in ninety days that the property becomes the property of the finder. Hopefully the money was not part of a bank robbery or money that is traced in an investigation because that would be the only reason you would not be able to keep it.

Keeping someone else bag of money means sleepless nights, nightmares(If managed to sleep), extreme fear of punishment from GOD & many more unexplainable horrible things. That person earned it & might be in desperate need too. I'll Hand over bag to police so they can trace the real owner.

I'd turn it in for sure because I don't want to be like Mr. Potter in "It's a Wonderful Life" although he knew where the money came from which makes it even worse!

I really would turn it in, it is not my money and turning it in is just
the right thing to do.  I once found a fifty dollar bill on the
ground near my apartment, asked around and found out it belonged to an
elderly neighbor.

God bless you for that Nanny! Was it part of their retirement, or social security? I love to help the elderly, course, I was taught to RESPECT my elders. So they get a plus if I can show the respect they deserve, and the assistance that I might give.

I would probably turn it in. If it didn't belong to me it obviously belonged to someone else. I also believe God will bless you for doing the right thing!=)

That was what I was saying, I think I would feel so guilty if I kept it, and it would eventually consume me. I don't want that feeling hanging over my head.

I am in the same boat. In the past I have returned extra money that has been given me by retail clerks, and bank tellers, but I don't know, if it was untraceable, I might keep it, because I could sure use it.

Turn it in if it is meant to be mine it will come back to me after the appropriate amount of time . Besides someone else lost it and they either need it or are responsible for it.

i don't know if any of you have seen this story about a guy that received a check in the amount of money he knew was not his . he then returned it to the bank from where it came he thought he was done with it the next month he received another check for the same amount this time he took it to the bank manager . this time he really thought it was over with ,wrong another check comes the next month for the same amount he then talked to a news reporter because he did not know whether to keep it or return it because this was the third time in a row he received this check. as the reporter asked what should someone do when they receive a check from a bank over and over . what is the law for this? well anyway the guy returned the check for a third time. the reporter then asked why the bank did not at least give the young man a reward for doing what is right not once but three times.

Well, you have to wait until the 9th, because that is when I posted the question, and I have to see if anyone else comes forward to claim it too. Do I get a reward? It is a huge bag you know!!

I would turn the money in. Someone else worked for that money and it belongs to them. It's not mine so why would I keep it? I would feel very guilty if I kept it. If I lost my wallet I would hope that an honest person would turn it in. Sorry to say, not everyone is honest now days.
Peace.
