An invertebrate is a creature that does not have a backbone. An avascular tissue is a tissue that lacks the supply of blood. In simple terms, the word avascluar means without, lacking or the absence of blood vessels or the supply of blood in the body of an animal. The words synonymous to avascular are dead, devitalised, necrotic and non-viable. The specific examples of avascular tissues include slough and eschar.
Slough is a necrotic tissue filled with gangrene. It is a mortified mass or gangrenous part of avascluar tissue. It is stringy and usually yellow in colour. It is soft, moist and devitalised avascular tissue. Further devitalisation may change the colour of the tissue to white, green or tan. It may either be loose or firmly adherent tissue. Eschar is also defined as a type of dead and burnt necrotic tissue that is visible on burnt or corroded due to the exposure to corrosive agents. It is in the form of a slough or a thick layer of dry scab.
