The flag of Bolivia is a tricolour, comprising of three horizontal bands that are red (on top), yellow (in the middle) and green (at the bottom) in colour. The yellow band has the Coat of Arms of the country in the centre. The coat of arms comprises a central crest surrounded by three flags of Bolivia on either side of the crest, crossed muskets signifying the struggle for independence and olive branches, which are symbolic of peace. It has an Andean condor (the national bird and protector of the country's honour and freedom) on top. In some coats of arms, the muskets are represented by a pair of crossed cannons, and there are other realistic interpretations as well.

The central crest has a border divided into two parts, with the name of the country (Bolivia) on top and ten stars at the bottom. Within the border, there is a mountain with a sun rising above it. A llama is depicted standing next to a tree and a bushel of wheat on a plain at the foothills of the mountain. It depicts the contrast between the two chief geographical features of the country (the mountains and the plains). The llama is the national animal of Bolivia, and the tree and the wheat are symbols of Bolivia's prosperity and rich base of agricultural resources.
