A dedication page in a book is the author's way of showing gratitude for someone who has been helpful getting the work into publication.
My favorite story was when I had a book called "Symbolic Logic" with a dedication "To Lydia." I kept it because I wasn't sure if he was expressing his undying love and appreciation for Lydia or trying to get her to be more logical.
One of my students at Boys Training School picked it up and asked "Any sex in it?"
It kind of depends on how symbolic you are, I guess.
