AMIT in its full form stands for Active Middleware Technology and is a Complex event processing rule engine.
Complex event processing, or CEP's objective is to identify events and react to them in real time in order to achieve a goal. AMIT fits in to this as it is a reactive application which is triggered by particular events.
AMIT plays an important role in helping organisations to reduce the costs involved with certain business decisions, but automating and monitoring the related processes, and creating a proactive business environment.
What enables it to be proactive is by moving away from a simple Event-Condition-Action model- eg. if this happens then we will respond as such- and introducing rules which will contribute towards the detection of patterns. In short- it is built to try and forsee events before they occur.
