SPECS, in terms of drama and the stage is an acronym for the following words:

Simple. Precise. Exaggerated. Clear. Slow.

These terms are used particularly in relation to the study and application of the art of mime. It is a term used a lot in high/secondary schools when taking mime lessons.

The History Of Mime

Mime plays an important part in history, not just theatrical history.

In fact, before human beings could communicate via the spoken word, we would use actions and gestures to relay what we needed or required!

Throughout the Roman and Greek ages mime developed in a theatrical capacity, playing an important part in how performers told their stories at festivals celebrating the Gods.

Famous Mimes

Of course, to this day no mime has ever been as well remembered as the silent film star Charlie Chaplin.

Here is one of his early films, showing mime at it's best!
