Many people seem to believe that Damian means the son of the devil, but these people are wrong. Damian in fact means 'to tame', and comes from the old Greek language. It was in Greece that this name actually derived.

The Damian, the thing that caused people to believe that Damian does in fact mean the son of the devil, was an urban legend. Damien in this sense means Devil child and it is believed to have stemmed from the word 'daemon'. Daemon is an older word, that is in fact still used, that is used to mean either devil or demon. The suffix 'ian' at the end of Damian means that the thing with the name 'relates to' Dam (or Daemon). It's word, a name, that has been cleverly created but it does not mean that the name Damian really does mean son of the devil, it just cleverly fits the urban legend definition and meaning.

It was an author who created the aforementioned meaning when he wrote the story of Damian the devil child. There is no historical evidence whatsoever that Damian is the name for the Devil's son.

For more information in regards to the meaning of the name Damian, you can perform a simple Google search. The Internet is packed full of websites that offer the meanings of names, and they most commonly come under baby name web pages. Many people choose their child's name by the meaning, so baby name websites could be a good place to start if you want to know even more information about Damian, other than it comes from the Greek 'to tame'. Either look for baby name websites by searching for them on Google, or search for 'Damian' and 'meaning' on either Google or Bing.
