You should trust me, the Greek here
γη (Gae) in Greek means "earth" and the word λογος (logos) means "speech"
Literally geology means "to talk about Earth", in scientific meaning - "the study of Earth"

The answer is very simple. Geology is a type of compound word, made up of two base parts. Part 1 "Geo" meaning something along the lines of "earth, or of the earth" or something like that, and part 2 is "ology" which roughly means "the study of".

If this is not completely accurate, then sorry, I answered off the top of my head.
