IQ stands for intelligence quotient. Supposedly, it is a score that tells one how 'bright' a person is compared to other people. The average IQ is by definition 100; scores above 100 indicate a higher than average IQ and scores below 100 indicate a lower that average IQ. Theoretically, scores can range any amount below or above 100, but in practice they do not meaningfully go much below 50 or above 150.
IQ of 113 falls in the category of high average. 16.1% of population falls in this category with IQ's of 110 to 119.
Half of the population has IQ's of between 90 and 110, while 25% have higher IQ's and 25% have lower IQ's. IQ of over 130 is considered very superior. Only 2.2% of population has this level of IQ. If you score this high in IQ tests, you may be able to qualify for Mensa, which is an organisation for highly intelligent people.
I am very bright even though my official IQ is 70. That is 3 standard deviations below average and so 98% of the population is supposed to be smarter than I am. I have a PhD in Membrane Biophysics. Fortunately, I am Australian and so my official score has never been a disadvantage as it would be in the USA. When I was a post-doctoral at Cornell University the PhD students were horrified when I told them what my score was and told them why my score was so low. When I was kid of 10 I had my first IQ test. I was not told what IQ stood for and the teacher told me if I did well I would be sent away to a strange school. Very attractive and so I threw the test. I was tested again at 12, 15 & 18. By the time I was 12 I knew what IQ stood for and I had observed that kids were told they had a high IQ but were lazy and did not work hard enough. They never harassed me. I deliberately threw any IQ test they gave me. The highschool princpal was a bit pissed off with me when I told him that I really did not want people to know how bright I was. I am a career NERD and I quite enjoy it. I am not alone. I know a guy with a PhD in Chemistry who has an official IQ even lower than mine. The Singapore army discharged him as medically unfit when he had to report for conscription and he convinced them he was a moron. He had nerves of steel. He could have spent 3 years in military prison. Casual testing of myself in IQ tests on the web where I have not really tried gives an IQ of about 126. Apparently I am brighter than at least 95% of the population. Your score of 113 is well above average. You do better than about 80% of people on IQ tests. The bad news is that IQ tests really test nothing much more than your ability to do IQ tests. For example, Japanese score very well on IQ tests but that is mainly because they are given an IQ test every 6 months throughout school. Crucially IQ score has nothing to do with creativity. There are plenty of people in the world who are very bright but have never had an idea of their own and would not know what to do with it if they did.
Taking a recognised IQ test such as Wechsler (WAIS IV) or Binet is a more accurate indicator of IQ. Online tests shouldn't be taken as serious as they aren't as comprehensive. My real iQ according to a neuropsychological assessment is 113, whereas online tests put me in the Genius range. - Go figure.
I had a 120 IQ in the 7th grade and just took one online. 113. Of coarse on the one in the 7th grade, the answers were in the back and I might have changed a few answers. XD
