Hello,

Card cataloguing is a very efficient system of filing and ordering books, particularly in a library. This allows for quicker location of specific books. There are three main types of card cataloguing, these are as followed:

  • By subject

This is a selection of books that are grouped by a particular subject field. For example, if you were looking up books about dogs, you would go to the "do" section

  • By title

This is simply categorised in alphabetical order by title. For example if you were looking for "To kill a mocking bird" you would find it in the T section.

  • By Author

This is categorised in alphabetical order by the author's name. This will usually be the first letter of the author's last name.

These are the three main kinds of card cataloguing, I hope it answers your question.
