Caleb was in the mass emigration with Moses, Aaron and Joshua. He was one of the twelve spies who were sent to explore the land of Canaan. He was one of the tribe members of Judah who at the age of forty years was sent to spy out the Promised Land. He furnished an honest report, as did Joshua, and was approved entrance to the Promised Land.

When Israel got into Canaan forty years later, the area around the city of Hebron was granted to Caleb for his faithfulness. Caleb got married to Ephrath and later she bore him a son named Hur. Caleb assured the hand of his daughter Achsah in marriage to any Israelite who would be able to triumph over Debir, and Othniel won the battle. Caleb can be found in the Books of Joshua, Judges, Numbers, Deuteronomy, and 1 Samuel.
