Alice is an extremely popular name of Old German origin. The German word Adalheidis which means nobility and an exalted nature gave rise to the French word Adeliz and the English word Adelaide of which the name Alice is a variant. The different forms of Alice are Adelisa, Alicia, Elsa, Alisha and Alison.

The name became a household one after Lewis Carroll's fairytales Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking Glass (1872). The tales depict the adventures of a seven year old girl Alice, who falls down a rabbit hole and finds herself in a fairyland. The name Alice began to connote a sweet girl after these stories were published. Recent famous personalities that bear the name include actress Alicia Silverstone and singer Alicia Keys.

Wow my names alice and I'm a girly girl and I'm smart too! Cool! Anyways, lewis carrol named his character alice because he had a wife named alice but then she died so he named his bunny after his wife which created the plot of alice in wonderland where a seven year old named alice follows a bunny into a hole.
