Obstinate implies "stubborn or pig-headed." A person who is obstinate is difficult to control because he is determined that he is right. Such a person has preconceived notions about certain things and actions, which he likes to believe as true against all opposition.

Being obstinate can be a good trait as well as bad. If a person is unrelenting to the amount of being disorderly and not observing discipline, then it can be a negative trait. If however, the person is obstinate about his pursuit to do a job which is morally and legally right, then it is a positive attribute. One should be obstinate to the extent of believing that no one has the right to steal his or her dream as long as it is ethically right.
