The word nonsensical is an adjective and you can use the term for something which you feel is ridiculous or makes no sense. The word is very common word and as almost every word that has 'non' used as a prefix, this word also conveys the idea of absence of something.

As we all know that the word sense is used to convey the idea of something that can give you a meaning. So when you are prefixing the word 'non' with it, it becomes the antonymous term of sense and therefore you use the word to for something which has no meaning.

There are several words that are formed by using the prefix 'non' and all of them are conveying the same idea of absence of something. You can find the word non-committal, non-compliance and several others that are based on the same root
