Dike has various meanings to it. Dike is usually referred to the Greek goddess of Moral Justice. In terms of Geology it is referred to as an invasive igneous body. They basically vary in texture or may also vary in the form of diabase or basaltic to granite or rhyolitic.

Dike is also referred to in terms of construction. It is a synthetic earthen wall. This wall is usually constructed as a defense or as a boundary that surrounds a particular area. In American English it is known as a levee. Usually a dike is built around some kind of water body to prevent any kind of flooding. Dikes were first constructed on the Indus Valley Civilisation.

The word dike is derived from the Netherlands word "dijk", whereas the English word comes from digging a furrow and forming the upcast top soil into a depository alongside it.
