Staple crop basically refers to the crop that relates to the traditional diet of the people of that area. People in some areas prefer wheat, rice, maize or potatoes and it is called the staple crop. Speaking more generally the staple crops are the ones that can be stored for an extended period, are starchy, have high carbohydrate content and store a lot of energy. Generally it can make up a part of each and every diet.
