Actually there is a difference be AT&T Wireless 800-331-0500 and AT&T Home Services 800-288-2020. They do hide the number on purpose it seems....
The very bad customer service I have seen in my life is AT&T for Internet and house number

I just need help with my email..registered a friend and then after that have not been able to access or find a number

AT&T has two different numbers for customer queries and for purchase. In case you have some query regarding billing, activation or some technical question then the number to be called is 1-800-331-0500. In case you have some query regarding sales or purchase like coverage, offers, the latest phones and to purchase new service etc then the number to be called is 1-888-333-6651. Within the US you have the advantage that you can just dial 611 from the wireless phone to reach a customer care center.
When I and my wife went to the at&t store get a new phone the sale man told me no change for the ac when I get the bill all 3 phone at&t charges $36 for each why the sale person lair to you
