The bold Eagle is the official symbol of the government of the United States of America. It is supposed to symbolize freedom, spirit and the pursuit of excellence. It has become a symbolic part of American folklore, art, architecture and music. It was adopted as such due to its being unique to North America. The bold eagle is also used by the Boy Scout movement where it symbolizes excellence. The bold eagle is also used as the symbol by American Airlines, Goodyear tires, National Wildlife Federation, Harley Davidson Motorcycles etc.

It was not always believed to be a symbol of everything good and American. Earlier still Ben Franklin believed that it would make a bad symbol as it depicted bad moral character. It was adapted as the official symbol when George Washington became the first President.
