A group of human beings sharing mutual interests, characteristic relationships, institutions and shared culture that gives them a distinct identity separating them from the other groups is known as the society. They interact with each other, share a common geographical and have a sense of identity. They are connected to each other by a common set of values, attitudes and norms. It is made up of people, institutions, systems, groups and networks. It can also be described as the totality of social relationships among humans. This word emerged during the 15th century from the Latin word "societas" which means a friendly association with others.

Thus it is the system of community life in general. Different types of societies emerged through technology, communication and economy. Some of the familiar societies are hunters and gatherers, agricultural society, advanced agricultural and industrial society.
