This is very possible. Jeremiah 17:9 warns us that :The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it."
There are as many responses to the Holy Spirit as there are people. I believe that many times the response is related to the persons personality and emotional make up. Yet, I have seen people respond totally different than their emotions and personalities would predict. For instance I have seen very stoical people laugh, cry, or shout in when moved by the Holy Spirit. And I have seen otherwise emotional, excitable people sit quietly calm and cool.
It is important to remember that emotions are not very reliable. I know people who have done some regrettable things based on an emotional "spiritual" equipping such as:
He isn't a drug or intoxicant. He is God almighty, one of the three persons of the God-head also known as the trinity.
The work of the Holy Spirit in the believer
Before a person becomes a Christian the Holy Spirit draws him or her to Jesus. It is up to the individual how they will respond to that drawing.
As for Christians any equipping we have with the Holy Spirit will make us a stronger, more dedicated and faithful follower of Christ. If that isn't happening then no matter how wonderful and how good it may feel that equipping isn't the Holy Spirit.
