It's a state called Bacteriemia, (in other terms, blood poisoning) associated with the spread of infections systemically. It is characterized by the site of infection being inflamed and in later stages by livid red lines across the skin following the veins. This is a very serious medical condition that needs to be treated with antibiotics in a hospital.
