The consumer revolution took place in the late 18th century (not in the 19th century). This revolution basically happened in England due to the change in the mindset of the consumers. The demand for the consumer goods rose higher, and people were inclined to buy things not just because they needed them, but because they wanted to follow the new fashion trends. The purchasing power and purchasing trends were changed. The luxuries were no more considered luxuries for the elite class, but even the upper middle class started to buy the items of luxury. In the nutshell, the whole idea of spending and purchasing was changed during that era. That is why they call it "Consumer Revolution"
