There isn't a widely used standard abbreviation (like Ltd for limited, or example.) What you do sometimes find is the term INDIE, though this isn't used in all situations - it mainly applies to music, films etc which are outside the main studio/ production systems. It is also sometimes used as a nickname for UK newspaper The Independent.
