If you are referring to the term "thin skinned", people often use it to describe another who is particularly sensitive, easily disturbed, offended, or becomes defensive. It can pertain one's entire personality or merely to a certain subject.

There are many different types of skin, but one thing people have in common is the thickness or thinness of the skin. There are different factors that can lead to either type. If you eat a lot of one type of food that is fattening, or very lean so that the body burns that food up quickly.
Some people just have a thin skin due to age, in fact, most of the elderly have thin skin, as time, sunlight and the style of living that has been lived.
Younger people tend to have a thicker skin because they are younger and the skin has more elasticity to it, heals quicker also.
If you are thinking about someone saying that "You're thin skinned", you might take it as them saying, You don't have the nerve, or, the courage, or, the experience to do something. Sometimes it is taken as an insult. Hope this helps.
