The proverb 'procrastination is the thief of time' is invaluable for every human being. It means that one exercise time management in every aspect of life. Time once lost, is lost forever. May be you will not get opportunities again, may be you will get better chances in the life, but the same opportunity that you got in that particular moment will be lost.

Usually we lose out on time because we are either late or we postpone doing things. The more we delay or the more we procrastinate, the more we tend to lose out on many things. Time after all is money. If you are punctual and do things on time or before time, you are respected and admired. An employee who reports to work on time and does not delay doing things has a chance of being promoted than the one who does not. Another proverb which is similar to the above is 'a stitch in time saves nine.'

The expression that Procrastination is the thief of time mean that by procrastinating we are wasting precious time which can be used productively. Time is what we humans have in limited amounts. Even though, it may not seem like that but the actual time that humans spend on the planet is very limited and it is very unwise of us to squander the little time we have meaninglessly when it can be used to do something better with our abilities and achieve much in our limited time periods. So, procrastination robs us of any opportunities we may find to better ourselves.

"Procrastination is the thief of time" is a line from the long poem "The Complaint: Night Thoughts" by 18th-century poet Edward Young. Over the years it has become a proverb, though now less commonly used than simpler sayings such as "time is money."

Procrastination is, literally, putting off until tomorrow. So the idea of this quotation is that if you put off a task until later you have lost all the time until you eventually get round to doing it, not just the time it actually takes to complete the task. You can see this is true if you think of some job you are dreading, but keep putting off. Every time you think of it, your heart probably sinks, and the longer you leave it the worse it feels. Therefore, you haven't just got to spend X number of hours on this job, you've poisoned the intervening time by dreading it.
