Tiberius is a Roman name for baby boys. It means 'of the Tiber', referring of course to the famous river Tiber that runs through Rome.

Historically speaking Tiberius Caesar Augustus was Rome's second emperor. He was born Tiberius Claudius Nero and was a Claudian by birth. He is hailed as one of the greatest generals the Roman Empire had ever seen. His illustrious career was marred by the Sejanus Affair and accusations of treason. He died at the age of 77 on the 16th March AD 37 in Misenum. Tiberius left behind a grand legacy. The royal treasury was twenty times richer than when he first came to power. He did not waste resources on endless conquests but instead utilised them to build and strengthen the existing empire.

Jesus Christ preached and was eventually executed during the reign of Tiberius. Tiberius is mentioned in the Bible in the Gospel of St. John.
