Rational thinking refers to logical or reasoning being involved in the thought process. It refers to providing reasons or rational behind thoughts or ideas. It adds an element of calculation and planning to a steam of thoughts rather then basing them on emotion or personal opinion. It is a kind of objective process of thinking and an analytic approach to any problem. Rational thinking is based on reasons or facts and is hence much more calculating and realistic. All people are capable of thinking rationally, but people will tend to cloud this ability because of emotions or prejudices. If you have ever had a chance to read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's character of Sherlock Holmes the concept of rational thinking will be far clearer. His logic is always based on facts rather than preconceived notions.

Not a thoroughly fleshed out observation, but probably basic enough for most to understand.

Does it mean the same thing as "positive thinking"? Why "positive", why not "realistic" or why use any qualification in front of it other than "rational"? The etymology of the word "rational" is interesting, in this context, and I think (!) relevant: It comes from the Latin word "ratio" 'order'. In many languages, there are similar relations as for instance in Finnish where "järkevä" 'rational, reasonable' is connected with "järki" 'order, reason'. So, thinking in an orderly manner, one point after another instead of thinking in "clouds" seems to be the gist (one of the gists) of the matter. (Excuse me the linguistic mistakes; English is my fourth language.)

Rational thinking is a systematic process of thinking where we can avoid our prejudice and emotions. In this thinking process we can analyse a problem or plan from various angles. In this process if we think and decide, we can take better decisions and make better conclusions.

Many men many minds. What may be right for one may not be so for the others. Rational thinking means humans thinking as human beings, not as monkeys. To think, give space to the other persons point of view and to accommodate each other in a positive manner for common good is rational thinking.

Rational thinking is thinking that is based on and adheres to perceptual reality. Thinking is the conceptual and logical process of identifying our sensory awareness of existence. Rational thinking is valid, correct, logical thinking.  Rational thinking begins with the sensory awareness of existence, employs valid, reality-based concepts, and applies logic consistently and systematically.

Logic is the method or process of identifying reality based on and adhering to our sensory awareness of existence.

A concept is a mental identification and integration of two or more particulars from our sensory awareness of existence.

The objective basis for thinking, logic, and concepts--and all human knowlege--is the sensory awareness of existence, which is primary and self-evident.

The meaning for it sounds just perfect, can somebody please help the  ways of implementing and practicing the same in real life. Coz each one of us would think that we should think rationally rather than emotionally but end up messing and mixing the both. Is there a systematic way to practice or institution which train you towards this.

I think every female should be required and mandated to take Rational Thinking courses as a part of the grammar school curriculmn.  Just think how much a positive impact this will have on society.  Irrational thinking females creates a miserable world for us all to live in.

I, being a rational thinking female, do not agree with your comment above. This is true of all people, not exclusively females. And yes it should be a requirement for every one. To learn how to think rationaly. That which you yourself must learn, because by pointing out the possible flaws in female thinking you are being biased, selfish and sexist. Stick to the facts my good, man. Just because women can do what any man can, doesnt give you the right to hate.
