During a major operation, the doctor may prepare the client for blood screening and their should be an available pack of whole blood which is compatible for the client's blood for blood transfusion in case of emergency like haemorrhages. During surgery, more likely the blood is lost so there would be decrease in red blood cell count which is one of the formed elements of the blood including the white blood cells and platelets. The vital function of our RBC or red blood cell is for oxygen transportation.
The medical term for a significant low RBC is anaemia.
