The word "-gram" is a suffix used in the English language. It is derived from the Greek word "-gramma" and in turn taken from the Greek "gramma" meaning letter. The suffix "-gram" is used to refer to something as being drawn or written. Some sort of a record. The word can also be used in the sense of telegram where something is directly mailed or a message is personally delivered. The suffix gram is much different from the unit of metric weight measurement of the same name. A thousand grams make a kilogram. Here gram is not used as a suffix.

Words that use the suffix gram include cardiogram, where the functioning of the heart is shown by way of a graph. A candygram refers to a message that is delivered through a personal messenger service.
