Soria is the name which owes its origin to Spain. There are other variations of the surname which include Soriano, Soreano, Soriyano and others. Though the year cannot be traced, it is reported that the first incidence of the surname being used was in Castle, north-central Spain. Joel Micael Soriano is the name of the very first setter bearing the surname (or rather its variant), in the US in 1526.

Incidentally Soria is also a name of a place in North Central Spain, on the banks of the river Duero. It is famous as a timber centre and a food processing hub. The city is also noted for its walls and architectural buildings. There are ruins of Numantia are nearby.
