The name "England" is derived from "Engla-lond" or "land of the Angles".   Also, the population of London is around 7,000,000 not 50,000,000 as stated above.  The entire population of Great Britain is approximately 60,000,000.

England is the southern part of the country Great Britain. The early settlers in England were Celtic however it was later conquered by Romans, Angles, Jutes, Saxons, Danes and Normans. Surrounded by Wales and the Irish Sea on the west side and then Scotland on the left England was united with Wales in 1536 and then with Scotland in the 1707, which was later identified as the land of Great Britain. The capital of this land, Great Britain, is London. London is the largest city with a population, which is beyond 50,000,000.

Scotland, Wales and England together form the country of Great Britain or United Kingdom. However, most popular error committed since ages when the country of Great Britain is addressed as England. The weather of England is influence by the maritime vagaries and so it is mild. Divided in eight zones it has a cluster of industrial and commercial growth in almost each zone.

In the year of 1606 England merged with Wales and a flag was designed to commemorate that even later in the history of Great Britain that flag became popular as 'Union Jack' that country's national flag. Being one of the most-valued provinces of historical significance in Europe, England has been a spectator to cultural and historical dynamism. It is graced with spectacular medieval architectural treasures. Being home of the British Royal Family has elevated England to a fairy-tale level. The ancestral castles and country homes of the Queen and her family are a treat to the revellers who look at their favourite royal members with deep love and unmatched devotion.

If  I    was born in wales I would be welsh----- if I was born in scotland I would be scottish ----I was born in england ----why should I be called british ?   The union flag is only called a union jack when it is flown on board ship.   LORNA
