Information which is arranged in a tabular format is known as tabulation. Data arranged in a chart or a table is known to be tabulated. It is a methodical, columnar display of data. One can look at a particular row, take the details and correlate it with data from various columns in the table. For instance, if you want to measure rainfall in the past seven years, the row will mention "rainfall" and the columns will show the period in terms of years like 2000, 2001 so on and so forth.

The census records are often tabulated with statistics referring to demographics and other records. Tabulation helps to summarise the data. One has to just glance at the tabulated piece of information to understand and memorise critical data rather than go exhaustively through the entire body of text. Relevant information is placed in a strategic and comprehensible manner through tabulation. Information laid in this manner makes for easy interpretation and explanation.
