The word "Shasta" can refer to a number of things but it can be associated most as the name of a Native American Tribe. The people of this tribe spoke the Shasta language and inhabited the areas of what now is Northern California and parts of Southern Oregon. Several places in and around the region are also called Shasta. There is a mountain called Mount Shasta which is found in California's Cascade Range. Then there is a city called Mount Shasta. There is also the Shasta County all of these in California and near the Mountain. There is also a Shasta River, Shasta Dam and Shasta Lake, the first being a river located near the mountain, the second being the Dam running across the river and the last being the artificial lake formed by the dam.
