Specious is something which is false or inaccurate. It is used to denote something which is plausible but cannot be verified as true. Misleadingly pleasing is the best way one can sum the meaning of "specious."

Specious looks true, seems correct but is far from the truth. Here are some of the synonyms of the word "specious": illogical, spurious, counterfeit, erroneous, make-believe, baseless, unfounded, hollow, phony, and fallacious.

Here is an example of the word in a sentence: The "do nothing, yet earn millions" claim made by some of the online businesses are specious in nature. "Specious" is supposed to have entered popular English literature for the very first time in beginning of the 16th century.
